How can I get more involved with First Steps?

There are many ways that you and your family can get involved with the First Steps Program. Please contact the First Steps Council office at 1-866-725-2398 or via email – firststepscouncil@neccfs.org for more information.

If you just want to receive information - Join our family list serv/mailing list!

To sign up, please enter you email address or mailing address in the Family List Serv space below or contact the Council Office.

If you have some time to volunteer - help us with special projects!

The Council is responsible for doing public awareness activities for First Steps. There is always a need for an extra hand to help us get the word out.

If you have 10 minutes to spare: You could help us by dropping off brochures at a site in your community or respond to family surveys or phone interviews about First Steps.

If you have an hour to spare: You could write an article for our family newsletter or give a talk to a local organization about your positive experience with First Steps.

If you have a couple of hours to spare: You could help us staff a First Steps booth at a local health fair or help us plan and organize other special events.

If you want to get involved with advocacy for the First Steps program - become a family representative on one of the local committees that helps with First Steps activities.

Become a member of the North East Coordinating Council (NECC) - this group oversees First Steps activities in the North East cluster. It is comprised of representatives from various community agencies across our seven-county region (DeKalb, Elkhart, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, St. Joseph and Whitely counties). The Council must include two or more parent representatives at all times.

Become a member of one of the local committees that promotes First Steps services in your community - Each of our counties has First Steps committees that help promote our services locally. These committees meet regularly and plan and organize activities that address needs in their community.

Make a financial contribution - help other families with children in need of developmental services!

Any amount is appreciated. All contributions are tax-deductible, and are used for activities and materials that help families already in the program or with public awareness to find other families that are in need of our services.
